We’re getting pretty darn excited over here at GeekWire for our big annual anniversary bash, complete with one of the most spectacular (and geeky) ping pong tournaments on planet Earth. But we’re not nearly as pumped up as Paul Weinstein, a vice president at Seattle-based Wheelhouse Search.

Weinstein — aka “The Ping Pong Hero” — has been involved in an intense workout regimen leading up to the March 26th event, as evidenced in the hilarious video below. (Yes, the training routine is set to the horribly catchy Bonnie Tyler song “I Need a Hero.”)

Watch out for the wild tactics of Weinstein, who will be one of more than 100 participants from the Seattle tech community competing in this year’s sold-out ping pong tournament. Can anyone topple this guy?

“When I first heard of the competition, my heart sank,” Weinstein tells us. “Shameful table tennis defeats of my past came back to haunt me. But with the help of my Wheelhouse team and weeks of core-strengthening ping pong crunches, I feel ready to take on any beginner or intermediate-level player.”

Fun stuff here as we get ready for the big Anniversary Bash on March 26th. Who else is training? Enjoy!

Unfortunately, tickets are now sold out for the Ping Pong and foosball tournaments, but there are still a limited number of tickets available for the Anniversary Bash, where we’ll be hosting other games and activities and giving away awesome prizes. And, yes, we will be handing out the “Spirit Prize” again for those who most proudly fly their geek pride flags.

Get your tickets here today before we sell out. We’ll post the brackets for the tournaments and provide more details on the event next week.

A big thanks to our presenting sponsor — CenturyLink — for helping to make this event possible!
