OK, this may be entering an entirely new realm of geekdom. The marketing wizards at Microsoft have struck a deal to promote its Windows Phone devices by showcasing the likes of Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and other characters from The Hobbit of trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson.
Marketing reports that Microsoft’s ad agency, Wunderman, is working with Warner Bros. on the campaign, which will include digital, print and billboards in the U.K., U.S., France and Germany.
The Hobbit arrives in theaters on December 13th.
Microsoft is in a desperate fight to get its mobile market share amped up as it battles with Android and Apple’s iOS. Could a little magic from the cast of The Hobbit do the trick?
