Russell Wilson in a promotional Super Bowl video for Uber Rewards. (Instagram screen grab)

At least Russell Wilson can joke about it.

With the Super Bowl just a couple days away, the sting for many fans is that their team isn’t playing for the NFL’s biggest prize. For Seahawks fans, the fact that the New England Patriots are there again only adds insult to the 2015 injury, when Wilson and his team came up just short against Tom Brady and company, and were denied a repeat championship.

Via videos on his social media accounts, Wilson is pitching an Uber Rewards promotion this week in which members of the ride-hailing service’s loyalty program can get free rides for an hour right after the game. But they have to be in the location that is home to the losing team — Los Angeles or Boston.

Uber is calling the promotion “Unhappy Hour.”

I’m not sure a free Uber ride would have erased the pain I’ve carried since Seahawks coach Pete Carroll opted to pass instead of run Marshawn Lynch at the goal line in that loss to the Patriots. I think I walked home that night. There’s probably an Uber cleaning fee for tears anyway.

But Wilson is dutifully shrugging it off four years later. As he exits an Uber, he flashes his Super Bowl ring from 2014 and says, “On one hand I know what it’s like to be a champ. On the other … well, you know.”

Check out the videos he’s posted so far, and look for another one on game day:
