One of the first authors to pull back the veil on notoriously mysterious Amazon is back at it, working on another book about the tech giant and its founder.

Brad Stone, author of “The Everything Store” is writing a new book Amazon and Jeff Bezos tentatively titled “Amazon Unbound.”

“I’m focused on Amazon because it’s the best story in business, a company that keeps reinventing itself, and there’s a lot to learn and study,” Stone told GeekWire. “I also realized that my first book tells only the first few chapters. Much has happened since that narrative ended around 2012, starting with Alexa.”

The new book will reportedly pick up where Stone’s last one left off. When Stone was working on “The Everything Store,” Bezos presciently told him it was “too early” for a definitive account of the company.

Nevertheless, Bezos gave Stone access to Amazon executives and his friends and family, providing a more intimate view into the company than most journalists receive. MacKenzie Bezos, wife of the Amazon CEO, may have regretted giving that much access to Stone. She famously posted a 1-star review of “The Everything Store” on — where else? — Amazon. Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos announced plans to divorce earlier this year.

“The Everything Store” was published in 2013 and detailed Amazon’s history and culture, from its formation at a rental house in Bellevue, Wash., to its massive Seattle campus.

Though that journey provided plenty of fodder for Stone, it was just the beginning for Amazon. Since 2013, Amazon has grown to more than 600,000 employees worldwide, expanded into new businesses, gobbled up a grocery chain and video streaming service, and, as Bezos likes to say, “it’s still Day 1.”

Simon & Schuster plans to publish Stone’s book in 2021, according to Axios, which first reported the news.
