Tech-related jobs made up nearly half of Glassdoor’s annual list of the top 25 highest-paying jobs in America.
Glassdoor, which tracks and maintains a database of career, salary, benefits, and compensation information, found that many of the top paying jobs this year are in tech — specifically computing, software, informational technology, or data.
However, the top two spots are still in law and medicine, with physicians raking in an average of $180,000 per year, and lawyers making $144,500 annually, on average.
The list, compiled based on employee surveys conducted over the past year, also included common tech industry positions product manager, research and development manager, analytics manager, and design manager.
“This report reinforces that high pay continues to be tied to in-demand skills, higher education and working in jobs that are protected from competition or automation,” Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, chief economist at Glassdoor, said in a news release. “This is why we see several jobs within the technology and healthcare industries.”
According to a December Harris Poll survey conducted on behalf of Glassdoor, 68 percent of people say that salary and compensation is among their top considerations before accepting job. Glassdoor’s report is meant to give those 45 percent of people who identify as current job seekers a better sense of which careers will pay the best salaries.
Chamberlain warned that having one of the highest-paying jobs doesn’t necessarily lead to workplace satisfaction.
“Our research shows that a big paycheck isn’t necessarily tied to long-term satisfaction in your job,” he said. “Instead, when we dig deeper into what keeps employees satisfied once they’re in a job and with a company, we find that culture and values, career opportunities, and trust in senior leadership are the biggest drivers of employee satisfaction.”
Perhaps employees are happier working for companies that offer high pay and enjoyable environments — like Google, named the best company to work for by Fortune, or Amazon, named the the most reputable company by this year’s Harris Poll.
