The holidays are just around the corner, which means the sweet treats and libations could quickly add some pounds around the waistline.

alltechlogoBut in the spirit of the season we’re here to help, and hopefully make the technology community a little bit healthier along the way. Through our partnership with ALLtech — a provider of health insurance to Washington-based technology companies — we’ve struck a deal to offer a special discount on EveryMove @Work.

Think about it as our attempt to get geeks moving — something GeekWire co-founder Todd Bishop has pledged to do this holiday through his “Microsoft Band Diary.”

EveryMove @Work — which we wrote about here — is a web-based application that allows employers to challenge and reward physical activity based on data captured from more than 150 wearable devices and fitness apps.

The idea?

Incentivize employees to lead healthier lives.

“Our member companies work hard to support an active, healthy, lifestyle among their employees, and with the growing popularity of fitness apps and devices, partnering with EveryMove was a natural fit,” said Ken Myer, an ALLtech Trustee. “We’re excited to offer special pricing on EveryMove @Work that we hope will motivate employees to explore the good things that come to those who sweat!”

GeekWire started working with ALLtech earlier this year, part of a partnership to bring affordable health insurance to small and medium-sized tech companies in Washington state. Dealing with health care plans and costs is one of the biggest pains of running a small business, and we saw an opportunity to help.

The partnership with EveryMove, in which companies receive a 20 percent discount, is simply another step in how GeekWire and ALLtech are looking to bring value to tech companies in the state. To receive the discount, ALLtech member companies just need to request it through EveryMove.

Here’s to keeping in good shape during the holidays.
