homesZillow is spending tens of millions of dollars this year on a national ad campaign, part of a plan by the Seattle online real estate company to “create a massive, enduring brand.”

Now, one of Zillow’s rivals is following in its footsteps. Homes.com today announced its first-ever national advertising campaign, dubbed “Inspiring Home Moments.” The 30-second spot will air on HGTVTLC and DIY networks.

“At Homes.com, we’ve enjoyed helping people find their perfect home for over 20 years – from a first rental to a place to retire,” said Wendy Froehlich, vice president of marketing Homes.com. “Our goal is to be a partner in every phase of their home search process, with the vast number of tools we offer and by connecting consumers to real estate professionals.”

Homes.com was the fifth most visited real estate site in July, according to Experian Marketing Services. Last month, Bellevue-based Imprev announced that it was powering the company’s new marketing center for real estate professionals. Homes.com, a unit of Dominion Enterprisesattracts about 12.5 million visitors per month.

Zillow, on the other hand, attracted 61 million visitors last month.

Interestingly, San Francisco-based Trulia, which like Zillow is publicly traded, said in a recent earnings call that it won’t be investing heavily in advertising. It is now attracting about 35 million unique visitors per month.
