Sounders Soccer + Rooftop Deck + Geeks = Awesome!
That’s right Sounders fans. Get ready for some fun in the sun on September 4th.
Since starting GeekWire just over two years ago, I’ve been looking for ways to combine my two passions: technology and soccer.
Now, we’re making it happen with GeekWire Sounders Day, starting with a party on the rooftop deck of EMC/Isilon prior to the September 4th match against Chivas USA. We’ve also got a special block of tickets to the match, so you can keep the party rolling in the stands with other GeekWire/Sounders faithful.

The pre-game party will get rolling at 4 p.m on the amazing rooftop deck of EMC/Isilon (505 1st Avenue South) — a stone’s throw away from the stadium in Pioneer Square. After some cold beverages and BBQ, we’ll rally the troops around 6:30 p.m. for our own march to the match just before kickoff at 7 p.m.
We’ve reserved a special block of seats at CenturyLink Field where the GeekWire faithful can chant, sing and cheer on our Sounders together during the match. The first 75 people to sign up for seats in the GeekWire section will get a custom-designed soccer scarf, plus the chance to win other soccer-themed prizes. (Game tickets will be distributed at the tailgate party).
If you’re already a season ticket holder or just want to hang with us on the rooftop deck, you can join us for the pre-game festivities for either $5 (developers and engineers) or $10 (general admission).
Haven’t checked out a game yet? Or are a longtime supporter? This is your chance to see the action, surrounded by friends from the soccer-lovin’ tech community.
And, yes, it gets even better. In order to geekify the pre-game fun, EMC/Isilon will raffle off a MakerBot Replicator 2 desktop 3D printer (a $2,200 value).
Even cooler, Sounders co-owner and general manager Adrian Hanauer — a certified geek himself and early-stage startup investor — plans to stop by our pre-game festivities to share some keys to the match. Other fun surprises are in store too.
