HTC_One_mini“Here’s To Change” is the name of HTC’s new ad campaign feature Robert Downey Jr.

And change is certainly happening at the smartphone maker as it faces off against big-time rivals like Apple and Samsung. The Verge is reporting that HTC just laid off about 30 employees and contractors in its HTC Americas division, a unit which is based in the Seattle area and has about 150 employees.

It’s unclear what sort of impact the cuts had in Seattle, but The Verge reports that the cuts occurred across multiple departments. According to a statement sent to the Verge, the layoffs would be used to “streamline and optimize our organization and improve efficiencies after several years of aggressive growth.”

HTC has fallen far behind Apple and Samsung, the leaders in the mobile device market.

The company’s revenue and profits have been falling, down 26 percent and 83 percent, respectively, in the last quarter. The HTC One was supposed to be the solution to the company’s problems, but sales haven’t really helped the Taiwanese device maker.

This chart kind of summarizes HTC’s troubles in the smartphone wars.
