Ballmer at the Microsoft Surface unveiling earlier this year.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer took a page out of Oprah’s playbook at the company’s big company meeting in Seattle on September 13th, announcing that every employee will get free Surface tablets, Windows Phones and work PCs running Windows 8. After seeing hints of the giveaway on Twitter, we were able to dig up details of the internal announcement, and the story was by far the most read story on GeekWire during the month.

Obviously, people like hearing about free stuff and office perks. Heck, within 24 hours, the story had garnered some 12,000 likes on Facebook.

Here’s a look at the top 10 posts for the month of September. Thanks to everyone for tuning in to GeekWire, and we’ll be back in October with fresh news, commentaries and features.
