It’s an age-old tradition in journalism to come up with top 10 lists at this time of year. And Time magazine just released the big kahuna of all lists with everything from movies to books to worst Tweets.

Of course, since we now live in an app-centric world, they didn’t overlook the tiny applications that make our mobile world easier and more fun. Among the winners in the category is WhitePages’ new Android app — Current Caller ID.

Launched in August, the app displays not just the name of callers but also their recent status updates from Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, plus information from their location, such as weather and news. To date, the app has been downloaded more than 1.3 million times.

Other notable apps chosen by Time included Figure; Burner; Instagram; Paper; Chrome; iTranslate Voice; Flipboard; SwiftKey; and OnLive Desktop.

In the gadget category, Microsoft’s new Surface computer and Nintendo’s Wii U were recognized along with the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy Note and Nest.

Here’s a video showing how the WhitePages app works:

It really is a bad-ass app, I get to screen at least one sales call every day with it! :)
