We’re halfway through 2018, and the year has already given us some super cool technology. Here on Geared Up, we’re celebrating the first half of the year by counting down our favorite gadgets from the past six months.

Listen to the episode in the player below or subscribe to Geared Up in your favorite podcast app to listen on the go. Keep reading for highlights from the conversation.

First up: The Tesla Model 3. Geared Up co-host Andru got his new Model 3 just a few weeks ago, and he says it’s already changed the way he drives. New technology like autopilot for freeway driving makes the Model 3 more of a driveable gadget than a car, but Andru says the on-car media system needs some work. Apart from its tech, the Model 3 also looks simply stunning.

Our second pick is one that both our Geared Up co-hosts have been enjoying: iOS 12. The new operating system for iPhones and iPads won’t be officially released until the fall, but Andru and co-host Todd Bishop have already been enjoying some of its super smart AI features through the software’s beta test. Major perks: Smart reminders and noticeably better battery life.

Last but not least, Todd chose the portable virtual reality headset Oculus Go as his favorite gadget of the year so far. He says the device has completely changed how he thinks about VR and it has quickly become a favorite for all members of the family. He recommends some of the simple games, like Coaster Combat and VR Karts Sprint.

That’s just a taste of the coolest tech of 2018 so far. Subscribe to Geared Up for weekly episodes that bring you news and hands-on reviews of the best tech out there, and also stay tuned for our master list of best tech of 2018, coming in December.
