PITTSBURGH — One of the highlights of our first week here was the chance to sit down with Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, one of the key figures behind this region’s continued tech resurgence, whose city is one of 20 finalists for Amazon’s $5 billion second headquarters.

In this behind-the-scenes video, above, we share pictures and audio highlights from the interview. GeekWire’s John Cook and I offer our armchair analysis of Pittsburgh’s prospects for landing Amazon HQ2, including some areas where we think Peduto is on the mark, and other areas where he might be misjudging Amazon, at least based on our experience with the tech giant in our hometown of Seattle.

GeekWire reporters and editors are in Pittsburgh for the full month of February, covering a broad swath this city’s tech and innovation scene as part of our own “GeekWire HQ2” project. As one part of that coverage, we’re using Pittsburgh as a window into the way regions around the country are attempting to land one of the biggest corporate prizes in history.

Of course, there’s much more to Pittsburgh tech than its long-shot bid for Amazon HQ2, and in fact I have to run out right now from our temporary home at Beauty Shoppe coworking in the Lawrenceville neighborhood for an appointment on nearby Robotics Row, so I’ll leave it at that for now.

Check out the behind-the-scenes video above, and follow all of our reporting on Pittsburgh technology startups, people, innovations and the larger trends impacting this city on our GeekWire HQ2 special coverage page.
