Amazon is gearing up for a big expansion in the Big Apple.

The company will open a new 360,000-square-foot office in Manhattan next year, with room for 1,800 workers. The new office will house people working on Amazon Web Services, Amazon Fashion and Amazon Advertising. It will be the New York home base for Amazon Advertising, with teams focused on marketing, product, design, engineering and more.

“We’re excited to expand our presence in New York — we have always found great talent here,” said Paul Kotas, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide advertising. “Last January we announced our plans to create 100,000 full-time, full-benefit jobs in the U.S. by mid-2018 – and we are on track to reach that goal.”

The move is part of an effort to hire 2,000 people in New York, more than doubling its current workforce there, which is spread across a fashion photo studio in Brooklyn, a pair of Amazon Books stores and a Prime Now rapid delivery hub. Amazon also recently announced plans to open its first fulfillment center in the state, an 855,000-square-foot facility on Staten Island that will support 2,250 jobs.

The office will occupy a pair of floors at Five Manhattan West, a 16-story office building undergoing a $353 million renovation. The building is part of the larger Manhattan West mixed-use project, that includes office space, apartments, a hotel, retail and restaurant and parks, within the Hudson Yards District.

The complex is being developed by Brookfield, which recently developed Amazon’s new European headquarters in London.

This expansion comes as Amazon searches for a city to put its second headquarters. New York is one of more than 100 cities that have thrown their hats in the ring to try and land the $5 billion project, which will bring with it 50,000 jobs. New York’s pitch centers not around tax breaks, but a diverse and talented workforce, quality universities and the lure of the nation’s signature city.

“Amazon’s decision to expand in New York City is proof positive that the strong economic climate of this state, and New York’s diverse workforce and talent, are helping to attract top-notch companies from around the world,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. “New York welcomes Amazon’s latest investment and expansion in New York, as we support the growth of our strong business sector and continue to create quality, high-paying jobs in the Empire State.”
