GW calendar logoSteampunk and STEM are two of the hottest buzzwords of 2015, but it’s rare to see the two vastly different trends collide. Unless you live in Seattle.

Local non-profit 501 Commons is hosting Techtacular: STEMpunk, a no-ask fundraising and networking event whose theme draws from robotics, tech, and the alternate Victorian reality of the steampunk genre.

STEMpunk Logo with GearThe event will be held Downtown at the Pacific Tower on April 29 and FIRST Robotics, a 501 Commons client, will supply robots for the occasion.

“Just as Steampunk looks back to the past to comment on the present and future, the night will feature a look back at First Robotics before a technology makeover the nonprofit has been undergoing.” writes 501 Commons.

Food, drinks, and entertainment are included in the $75 ticket, available for purchase here.

IMG_6162Seattle Sports Tech Meetup

Baseball is in full swing and the Seattle Mariners are getting geeky this season. In January they became the first MLB team to install LED stadium lights and a 3D hologram of the team’s mascot is greeting fans at Safeco.

But the Mariners aren’t the only Seattle team embracing the city’s tech culture. The Sounders have been known to use drones during practice and wearables to improve player fitness.

The Seattle Sports Tech Meetup was born out of this relationship between the two fields, and this month the focus will be wearables. Jesse Harper, President and CEO of i1 Biometrics, a local wearable company, will be speaking. Stop by for the discussion, Q&A, and networking. Guests can RSVP here.

When and where: April 15, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Startup Hall, Seattle.
