PepsiFanDeckMooseHologramThe Seattle Mariners are already getting geeky this season with LED lights at Safeco Field. Now here comes the hologram.

At a new Pepsi Fan Deck near the left field line, a life-sized 3D hologram of the Mariners mascot — Mariners Moose — will be hanging out and posing for pictures with fans.

Using motion sensors and artificial intelligence, the hologram will “spring to life with a surprise greeting” when fans come close. The 3D video image will move depending on where it detects fans standing around.

This is the first life-sized hologram that will appear at Safeco Field. A team spokesperson confirmed that this is not an April Fool’s joke.

The season opener is next Monday at Safeco Field, so fans, let us know what you think of the virtual Moose. You wonder when the Mariners will start dropping holograms of virtual players around the stadium, too.
