It seems like every other person in Seattle is wearing Seahawks gear on this Super Bowl Weekend, and now we can quantify the 12th Man phenomenon, from the perspective of consumer spending.
An Amazon representative shared these trends and stats today from the company’s online sports merchandise and electronics stores.
- Of the top 100 searches within the Amazon Sports Fan Shop last month, nearly half were for NFL related products —22% of those searches were for Seattle Seahawks gear.
- During the week leading up to the NFC and AFC Championship games, items from the Seattle Seahawks Fan Shop sold more than 8x the average NFL team while items from the New England Patriots Fan Shop sold just over 2.5x the average.
- That same week, customer interest in Seattle Seahawks gear was nearly 8x that compared to the average NFL team.
- Since the beginning of the NFL season, more TVs have been shipped to Seattleites than fans in Boston, Green Bay and Indianapolis combined.
Of course, a “Re-Pete” or “Super Bowl Champs” shirt is even better. Imagine what these numbers will look like if they win again.
