He has been on the job for about two months, but Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will be making what amounts to his public debut on Thursday morning — his first chance to not just discuss his vision for Microsoft’s future, but also to demonstrate where he wants to take the company.
The Microsoft event has been vaguely billed as a talk about “the intersection of cloud and mobile,” but everyone expects something very specific: Office for iPad.
Assuming that’s the case, the event will symbolize Microsoft’s new era, in which the company is trying to expand its horizons further beyond Windows. It will also give Nadella a chance to make a statement, literally and figuratively, about where he’s taking the company.

The event starts at 10 a.m. Pacific time, and it’s expected to be available for streaming via Microsoft’s site. We’ll also have a live blog on GeekWire, including reports from the scene in San Francisco.
In the meantime, Nadella is feeling loose enough to joke around tonight on Twitter with an old friend, Clippy – some funny person playing the role of Microsoft’s ill-fated former Office virtual assistant.
You do know what tomorrow's Microsoft event is about right? @satyanadella is bringing me back, baby!
