Marc Andreessen isn’t the only geek sending out multiple tweets at once to explain himself — now Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is, too.
Nadella took to Twitter Tuesday evening to share his thoughts on the “more personal computing era,” sending out a series of seven tweets — nearly 10 percent of his entire tweet history — that described four characteristics of the era he referenced: “People centered,” “data fueled,” “balanced monetization,” and “more human.”
Nadella started with this warning:
1/7 In the spirit of @pmarca , a set of tweets to define the more personal computing era (h/t to @evanspiegel )
— Satya Nadella (@satyanadella) May 28, 2014
That’s a nod to Andreessen, who has been engaging in similar tweet marathons lately and told the New York Times that he wishes Twitter’s character limit was increased from 140 to 400.
Nadella’s hat tip to SnapChat CEO Evan Spiegel was something that he mentioned earlier Tuesday during his talk at the Re/code Code Conference in California. As Business Insider notes here, Nadella said we’ve entered the “post-post-PC era,” — an phrase he thought of after reading what Spiegel had said during a speech in January about the age of the “More-Personal Computer.”
Here are Nadella’s six other tweets:
2/7 Four characteristics: people centered, data fueled, balanced monetization, more human
— Satya Nadella (@satyanadella) May 28, 2014
3/7 People centered. Apps power experiences across devices. We will not be bound to one app, on one device, in one place
— Satya Nadella (@satyanadella) May 28, 2014
4/7 Data is our most precious natural resource. Our task is to refine data into the fuel for more personal experiences
— Satya Nadella (@satyanadella) May 28, 2014
5/7 Balanced Monetization. One business model does not fit all. Balance is achieved by putting people at the center
— Satya Nadella (@satyanadella) May 28, 2014
6/7 More Human. Technology is at a point where it starts to understand us, becomes more personal – see Skype Translator
— Satya Nadella (@satyanadella) May 28, 2014
7/7 The most powerful OS in the world is still the human being, that’s what drives us into the more personal computing era
— Satya Nadella (@satyanadella) May 28, 2014
And here’s some initial reaction from the Twitter world (don’t think anyone has used seven consecutive tweets to respond, yet):
no satya don't do it
— Alex (@alex) May 28, 2014
1/ oh god

It takes more than 140 characters to describe the more personal computing era. :)

@satyanadella @pmarca @evanspiegel 1/ Twitter needs to charge you guys $1m each time you want to do this, and boom, stock price surges.

@satyanadella humans learned to work with computers, now computers are smart enough to learn n work with humans

“@satyanadella: 7/7 The most powerful OS in the world is still the human being.” Ugh, can’t accept iOS is best.
