honk1AAA has some new smartphone-enabled competition.

A Los Angeles-based startup called Honk launched today, promising to bring 24/7 nationwide roadside assistance within 15-to-30 minutes in cities with a few taps of your smartphone.

Honk’s app uses the GPS to locate your vehicle and after requesting help for whatever car problem you have — out of gas, accident, battery, tires, etc. — one of the 20,000 Honk partner tow trucks is sent to your location. Service prices start at $49 and increase depending on your need.

Honk was founded by Corey Brundage, who created the company after his fiance’s car stalled and he took an Uber to go help her.

Among Honk’s investors — the startup has raised $1.8 million — is Seattle-based Cheezeburger CEO and founder Ben Huh, who once said that angel investing wasn’t quite for him. Huh, who is an investor in Founder’s Co-op and Dave McClure’s 500 Startups, is also the co-founder of Circa, a news app that launched two years ago and is trying to redefine news presentation with its app.

We’ve reached to Huh for comment on his investment in Honk and will update when we hear back.

Update, 11:45 a.m. — Huh told GeekWire that he invests via funds, as opposed to direct investment. He lets other investment professionals invest on his behalf by using AngelList Syndicates.
