screen568x568-7The Nike+ Running app got an update today that includes a new Coach feature that gives users encouragement and provides them with workout plans to help them reach their goals, whether that’s running a 5K or winning a marathon.

Like a number of other fitness-tracking apps, Nike’s running app uses the iPhone’s sensors to track a runner’s position and exertion along their route, and then provides them with metrics about their effort. In addition, Nike includes social capabilities so friends can compare how they’re doing.

For users who are looking for something a bit more casual to get them off the couch, there’s always The Walk, our App of the Week.

The Nike+ Running app is available for free in the iOS App Store.
