Madrona Venture Group is finishing the year with a bang, bankrolling a series of startup companies.  The latest is 2nd Watch, an Amazon Web Services premier partner and cloud services startup that just pulled in $4.2 million in funding. The 2nd Watch technology allows companies to operate more efficiently in the cloud, helping customers like Red Lion Hotels and Coldwell Banker migrate services to AWS.

“The public cloud, led by Amazon Web Services, is creating a dramatic shift in commercial computing and IT, but businesses need solutions partners to fully leverage the cloud,” said Matt McIlwain, Managing Director of Madrona Venture Group. “2nd Watch is a clear leader on delivering solutions fitted to where enterprise customers are today and where they are going in the future with cloud adoption.”

As part of the funding, McIlwain has joined the 2nd Watch board of directors. The company, with offices in Seattle and Spokane, is led by Kris Bliesner, a former Microsoft employee who previously served as CIO at Ambassadors Group.

The deal follows investments by Madrona in Lumo BodyTech and Jeremy Jaech’s home sensor startup SNUPI.
