PopCap Games continues to expand in Asia, announcing today that it plans to launch Pop Tower on Japan’s largest social network, GREE. Owned by Taito Corp., GREE boasts more than 25 million users. The announcement comes a day after the Seattle casual gaming company inked a deal to bring Plants vs. Zombies to China’s social networking service Renren.

Pop Tower also marks the first mobile social game that PopCap has released from its Tokyo office. The company said today it has sold more than 1 million units of its single player mobile games in Japan.

“The results of the collaboration are everything we expect from a PopCap game – it’s innovative, creative, and a bit quirky too,” said James Gwertzman, PopCap’s Vice President for Asia/Pacific. “Pop Tower is undoubtedly one of the most exciting projects we’ve worked on to date, and I’m particularly proud that our Japanese team managed to bring it to market on schedule despite the devastating effects of the recent earthquake.”

Founded in 2000, PopCap now employs 350 people worldwide.
