Kate Matsudaira

Kate Matsudaira has left her vice president of engineering post at SEOMoz to join the growing team at Decide.com, GeekWire has learned. Matsudaira, who spent the past two years at SEOMoz, will serve as vice president of engineering at the Seattle upstart.

The University of Washington computer science grad says she’s looking forward to her new role at Decide.com, which earlier this year released a new service that tells people the best time to buy consumer electronics products.

“The value proposition of helping people decide when to buy is appealing,” Matsudaira tells GeekWire. “I know I have purchased something only to have the next model come out right away, or see it on sale a few weeks later.”

In April, Decide.com raised $6 million from Maveron; Madrona; Google investor and former Amazon.com executive Ram Shriram; former Expedia CEO Erik Blachford; Zillow co-founder Rich Barton; and former Farecast CEO Hugh Crean. The company is led by Mike Fridgen, a former executive at Seattle travel startup Farecast. (Sold to Microsoft for $115 million).

Decide.com’s founders include University of Washington computer scientist Oren Etzioni as well as Hsu Han OoiHsu Ken OoiIan Ma and Brian Ma. In addition to Matsudaira, Decide.com also recently named Andy Farsje, formerly of Farecast, as vice president of finance.

GeekWire featured Matsudaira as a “Geek of the Week” in April. Prior to SEOMoz, Matsudaira worked in engineering roles at Delve Networks, Microsoft and Amazon.com.

Rand Fishkin, the CEO of SEOMoz, said they are actively recruiting a vice president of engineering to fill Matsudaira’s shoes
