twitterThe Dallas Cowboys front office doesn’t like the technology that reporters are using to do their jobs.

The NFL team sent out a note to reporters on Tuesday with an updated media access policy that effectively bans reporters from live-tweeting or using a live-streaming app like Periscope to document open locker room and open practice sessions.

Deadspin has the details of the new policy, which also prevents media from taking video with their smartphones at practice or in the locker room.

While the new rules seem a bit excessive compared to other team policies around the NFL, other organizations have similar restrictions.

Dallas’ recent changes perhaps stem from a recent incident involving wide receiver Dez Bryant, who was angry with reporters and went on a rant inside the locker room last month. CBSSports, which calls the rules “arcane,” noted that the Washington Redskins implemented a similar policy during training camp.

As apps like Twitter and Periscope make it easier for reporters to provide live updates from practice and games, teams and leagues are responding with their own regulations for media — and fans, too.
