Periodic Table of Tech (CB Insights) - image

Just like oxygen or nitrogen, capital is an essential element of any startup.

Now, thanks to the folks over at CB Insights, you can scan the “periodic table” of tech investing, finding the best investor for your startup. The chart is creatively designed, broken into categories such as “micro VC firms,” “corporate VCs,” “accelerators” and “tech acquirers.”

It highlights the 118 most important investors and acquirers in tech.

“With the explosion of players — both investors and acquirers — in tech today, we’re often asked by those trying to navigate the space who they should know,” writes CB Insights’ Anand Sanwal. “We’ve tried to answer that question with prior analyses of various groups — angels, micro-VCs, corporate VCs and VCs — using our data on investor quality, brand and deal activity.”

It’s a pretty fun look at the makeup of the tech investment landscape. While two Seattle area companies make the list in the corporate acquirer category — Amazon and Microsoft — no Seattle venture firms make it of the 33 firms in the venture category. That’s a problem we’ve addressed in the past, noting the lack of venture capital infrastructure in the Northwest.
