The zombies are here! The zombies are here!

The Angry Birds display last year

Seattle’s iconic Space Needle has been taken over by those marauding zombies from PopCap Games, which today is releasing  “Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time.” The PR stunt got rolling this morning, and continues with other activities at the Space Needle, including autograph sessions and photo ops with the zombies and a Champagne toast.

As we noted yesterday, this is not the first time that a gaming company has used the Space Needle for a product launch. Angry BIrds took over the landmark last year for an odd performance art display to promote its Angry Birds Space game.

Which PR stunt do you like better?

Obviously the Angry Birds gimmick was more visible. In order to see this Zombies one I have to fly over the Space Needle, and fly close enough to read the message. Only then would I think to perhaps download it, but shoot! My flight doesn’t have wifi!

I went down to Seattle Center over lunch today, hoping to get a glimpse of the zombies for a game that I’ve really enjoyed and am excited for the next version. There was NOTHING that I saw walking around Seattle Center that even hinted at the fact that PvZ activities had or were happening – no signage, no zombies wandering around, etc. What’d I miss? I thought activities were happening today until about 1:30p, but myself and all of the other tourist-types would’ve never known anything was happening based on what I *didn’t* see. Bummer, PopCap/EA…would’ve been cool.
