Amazon, watch out — Google is stepping into your space.
TechCrunch is reporting today that Google is preparing to launch something called “Google Shopping Express,” a same-day shipping service designed to compete with Amazon Prime.
Sources say that the service will be $10 or $15 cheaper than Amazon Prime, which currently sells for $79/year. Google’s service would reportedly also offer same-day delivery from stores like Target and Safeway.
No launch dates were given, but Google is apparently testing the service. Having a shipping service would compliment Google’s already-implemented e-commerce solutions like Google Wallet and Google Shopping.
And this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Google focus on e-commerce as of late. Last December, the company bought BufferBox, a company that rivals Amazon Lockers and allows parcels to be shipped to pick-up stations. One month later, it also acquired online data retail management service Channel Intelligence.
Amazon Prime membership gives customers free two-day shipping, unlimited streaming of content on Prime Instant Video and one free book rental per month.
