Muir AI, a Seattle startup providing carbon accounting, has raised a $3.25 million seed round led by Base10 Partners. Existing investors Madrona Venture Labs and Soma Capital also participated in the round. The company has raised $3.75 million to date.

Muir’s co-founders are CEO Harris Chalat, who came from aerospace companies SpaceX and Relativity Space, and Chief Technology Officer Peter Williams, who worked in aerospace and at Amazon.

The company is combining satellite technology with artificial intelligence and machine learning to help companies calculate their supply chain emissions, which are notoriously challenging to compute. The information can help companies curb their carbon footprints.

Muir launched in February 2022 and participated in Madrona Venture Labs’ accelerator.

There are dozens of companies working in carbon accounting and emissions reduction. In the Pacific Northwest that includes Climate Vault Solutions; Earth Finance; Ren Energy; Carbon Direct, with offices in Seattle and New York; and Scope 5, which was acquired. Additional U.S. companies include Persefoni, Measurabl, Cleartrace and Watershed.
