Amazon picked up 11 nominations back in 2017, including five for the film “Manchester by the Sea.” Last year, the series “Fleabag” bagged two awards for Amazon Studios.
Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke told Deadline Wednesday that she was thrilled by what the nominations says about the streamer’s film slate in particular.
“We have extended our vision to create slates with really diverse voices that can break through culturally. From Regina to Riz, Sacha and Steve McQueen, there is no better talent for us to be in business with, and that is reflected in the content today,” Salke said.
“We will continue to invest big in films that drive engagement across Amazon Prime globally, as we continue to build that,” Salke added. “We are creating a home for talent, and it’s not just a transactional acquisition business.”
“Mank” (six nominations) and “The Trial of the Chicago 7′ (five) led the way in the film category for Netflix, and the network’s “The Crown” was tops on TV with six nominations followed by “Ozark” with four.
The Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air Sunday, Feb. 28, at 5 p.m. PT on NBC.
