Marty Baron, who retired as executive editor of The Washington Post earlier this year, is writing a book about his time at the newspaper and how it was impacted by Jeff Bezos’ ownership and Donald Trump’s presidency.

“Collision of Power: Trump, Bezos, and The Washington Post” was acquired by Flatiron Books, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Baron spent eight years at The Post and 45 years in journalism before announcing on Jan. 26 that he was retiring. The book will be part memoir and also explore larger issues of the press, its role in democracy, and how tech and politics disrupts all of it.

Bezos purchased the Post for $250 million in August 2013. At the time, the move shocked media and tech watchers who considered newspapers a dying business and Bezos as someone who was interested in anything but.

The Amazon CEO was a frequent target of President Trump, who regularly called the paper the “Amazon Washington Post” and said Bezos was using the newspaper to push his own agenda for the Seattle-based tech giant.

Baron previously spoke to The New Yorker at length about Bezos and how the billionaire owner reshaped The Post.

“This authoritative and keenly observed book will show just how essential a fearless and independent press is, especially when faced with profound disruption from politics, tech, and other media,” Flatiron editor Zachary Wagman said in a statement.

Flatiron has not set a publication date.
