Pop culture fans missing the chance to geek out in person will have to wait another year, as Emerald City Comic Con announced Tuesday that the Seattle event is now scheduled for Dec. 2-5, 2021.

“It’s been a rough year, and we’ve truly missed bringing you the geekiest show in the Pacific Northwest,” event organizers ReedPOP said in a statement. “The safety and the well-being of all those that come together for this show will always come first.”

The COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of this year’s Comic Con, which was originally scheduled for March 12-15 and then pushed back to August in the hopes that the health crisis would subside. That never happened and the in-person event gave way to a virtual gathering, as did many events across all sorts of industries.

Comic Con, a celebrity and fan-fueled celebration of film, television, comics and more, attracted 98,000 attendees to the Washington State Convention Center over four days in 2019.

ReedPOP announced that it will connect fans next spring through its Metaverse digital experience.

“If we have learned anything from our experiences this year, it’s how resilient our fans, creators, exhibitors and sponsors are,” Lance Fensterman, president of ReedPOP, said in a news release.
