Dr. Thomas Lynch, the new president and director of Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, will join GeekWire this Thursday, May 21, for a live online conversation. Participation in the webinar is exclusive to GeekWire members.

The Seattle-based institute’s scientists and researchers have emerged as leaders in the effort to understand, track and reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the midst of the global pandemic. The discussion will also touch on the status of Fred Hutch’s core cancer research efforts, and Lynch’s long-term vision for Fred Hutch as an institution. To participate, become a GeekWire member today.

Lynch joined Fred Hutch as president on Feb. 1, just before the COVID-19 crisis escalated in the Seattle region and globally. At the time, he outlined a four-point plan to help guide Fred Hutch in its quest to treat and ultimately cure cancer.

He’s a scientist and oncologist who was part of the first research team to discover how targeted therapies could help lung cancer patients with a specific genetic mutation. Lynch was most recently chief scientific officer of Bristol-Myers Squibb.

This live virtual event will take place at 1:30 p.m. Pacific time Thursday, May 21, with questions from webinar participants to follow Lynch’s conversation with GeekWire editor Todd Bishop.

This is part of a larger series of virtual events from GeekWire. Video and coverage will be available to all GeekWire readers, but participation in the live webinar is exclusive to GeekWire members.
