It hasn’t been easy for working parents over the past few months as they juggle working from home while caring for their children.

That’s why a group of Seattle tech leaders today released a new guide for employers to help small and medium-sized businesses support working parents and caregivers.

Seattle startup Leg Up spearheaded the research and got help from HR leaders at companies including Avalara, Convoy, Reverb, Rover, Textio, Zillow, and more.

“The guide includes quotes of what parents and caregivers are experiencing, resources for companies to provide their employees (including discounts), suggestions to change HR policies and programs, quotes and suggestions from executives around the city, and more,” said Leg Up co-founder and CEO Jessica Eggert.

With schools pivoting to remote learning and the lack of sufficient childcare options, working parents are faced with the near-impossible task of balancing their careers with caring for and educating their children.

Melinda Gates today said America’s “broken” caregiving system is “threatening our country’s ability to safely reopen.”

The guide is complementary to other resources such as Madrona Venture Group’s “Back to Work Toolkit” released last month, said Eggert, who helped launch Leg Up last year as a marketplace for parents to find daycare, after school care and classes, enrichment programs, and other activities.
