Zoom+Care, the Portland, Ore.-based on-demand health care provider, is expanding beyond its roots in the Pacific Northwest, announcing plans to open new clinics in Colorado and Idaho.
In addition to opening brick-and-mortar locations in Boise, Denver and Boulder in the coming months, Zoom+Care says its expansion into the states will allow it to provide telehealth services to the nearly 8 million residents of Colorado and Idaho.
The company, which was acquired by the PeaceHealth health system two years ago, puts a heavy focus its app and online portal for scheduling, payments and medical records, seeking to streamline the experience for patients in the spirit of ride-hailing apps and other on-demand service providers.
Like other health care providers, the company has aggressively ramped up its telehealth platform in recent months in response to the pandemic. Zoom+Care says it it has conducted more than 70,000 virtual visits since March, in addition to offering COVID-19 diagnostic and antibody tests.
In an interview with GeekWire earlier this year, Zoom+Care CEO Torben Nielsen said the growth of telehealth could accelerate the company’s expansion, as some of the restrictions on licensing loosen to accommodate the increased need to receive care at home. “It really helps us look at it more holistically, and over time could accelerate us looking at other markets, for sure,” he said at the time.
Although it provides urgent care treatment, Zoom+Care is increasingly seeking to position itself as a primary care provider, relying in part on technology to create an element of consistency even though patients may see different providers depending on when they visit.
With the expansion, ZoomCare is expected to have more than 50 in-person clinics across four states. The says it has company has opened more than 20 clinics in Washington and Oregon in the past year, and doubled its footprint in Seattle over the same time period, reaching 20 clinics total in the region.
