We’re just hours away until the kick off of Geeks Gaming for Good, an action-packed Rocket League tournament in which Seattle area companies will compete for glory, prizes and — most importantly — a prize pool that will support non-profits that are helping our region’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here’s everything you need to know to engage with this fun community event, presented by title sponsor Avalara in partnership with our coordinating partner Virtual Sports.

  • When is the tournament taking place? Wednesday, July 8 from 2 p.m to 5 p.m. PST
  • If I am not competing, can I tune in? Yes, absolutely. We’re livestreaming the event on Twitch here with the feed also shown via GeekWire.com.  You can also interact with friends and colleagues via AltSpaceVR, engaging in a virtual meetup of fans as you watch the tournament.
  • Who is competing? Teams include Seattle area tech companies: Hiya, Chef, Avalara, Qumulo and Flowplay.
  • What non-profits are the teams playing for? Community Roots Housing (Hiya); Pike Place Market Foundation (Chef); Farestart (Avalara); United Way of King County (Qumulo); and the Small Business Stabilization Fund (Flowplay).
  • What is Rocket League? It is a fast-paced video game that combines soccer with automobile racing. In this 3-on-3 tournament, companies will compete against one another, trying to score the most goals. Game players will compete using Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch or PC.
  • What are teams playing for? In addition to glory, the winning team will receive three round trip tickets on Alaska Airlines, courtesy of our official travel partner of Geeks Gaming for Good. The winning team will also designate proceeds from the prize pool to their chosen non-profit.
  • Hashtag: #GeeksGamingForGood
  • Can my company get involved? Yes. Please email us at events@geekwire.com if you’d like to sponsor, donate or participate.
