Seattle has gone to the dogs.

Two Seattle-area tech companies — Rover, the network of dog walkers and pet sitters, and Redfin, the real estate brokerage — teamed up to determine which cities in the U.S. could be considered the most dog friendly.

Rover ran the numbers on 14,000 cities to look at such metrics as highest counts of walks, dog walkers and sitters; along with total hours, minutes and distance per walk by each dog walker or sitter.

For its part, Redfin looked at how often the keyword “dog” appeared in the online listing descriptions of homes for sale. The term would typically show up to note that a property was dog friendly or close to dog parks. The company’s “Walk Score” also highlights how easy it is to get out of the house and get Fido moving.

You don’t have to look far to realize that Seattle has become home to more than just a sea of new tech workers. They brought their dogs with them. The city tops the Rover-Redfin list with a Walk Score of 73; 2 percent of homes for sale mention “dog.”

Seattle’s dog culture has permeated the workplace, too — Amazon, for example, opened a public dog park next to its Spheres building in 2017.

Rover also named the most popular breed for each area, and Labrador Retriever is top dog in the Seattle area. Check out the top-20 list below to see which other cities are considered fetching enough for your pup.
