There’s apparently a reason everyone wants in on the streaming game: because the services keep putting on a strong showing when awards season rolls around. Monday’s announcement of the Golden Globe nominations was no exception.

  • Netflix led the field across film and television with 34 total nominations, including six for “Marriage Story” and four for both “The Crown” and “Unbelievable.” Martin Scorsese’s new film “The Irishman” grabbed five nominations.
  • Amazon continues to prove it has a big stake in the streaming fight with eight total nominations, including for the Prime Video series and stars of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Fleabag.” Actresses Annette Benning and Emma Thompson were also nominated for motion picture performances in Amazon Studios productions.
  • The ceremony, put on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will air Jan. 5 in Los Angeles and be hosted by Ricky Gervais.
