Amazon’s plans for a “Operations Center of Excellence” in Nashville are starting to take shape.

New plans submitted to Nashville’s Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency this week call for a 300-foot, 20-story tower to be followed by another office tower, according to The Tennessean. Amazon’s Nashville workforce will be based at WeWork offices until the new towers are complete, likely in 2021 or 2022.

Nashville was one of 20 finalists for Amazon’s second North American headquarters, and while it didn’t win the heavily hyped contest, it came away with a nice consolation prize. The new center — responsible for customer fulfillment, transportation, supply chain and other functions — will employ 5,000 people in Nashville, just north of the Gulch, an upscale area between the famous music district and downtown.

Amazon has said the new facility will lead to $230 million in investment; one million square feet of office space and “an estimated incremental tax revenue of more than $1 billion over the next 10 years” as a result of new job creation.

Amazon’s towers are part of Nashville Yards, a $1 billion project being developed by Southwest Value Partners of San Diego that will also include a Grand Hyatt hotel and an “L.A. Live” style entertainment district.

In exchange for citing the operations center in Nashville and creating 5,000 jobs, Amazon will receive up to $102 million in incentives from the city and the state of Tennessee, or roughly $20,000 per job created.
