First John was Jim, a lovable prankster with a desk job. Now John is Jack. He’s still behind a desk, at first, and perhaps just as lovable. But his skills have expanded beyond selling paper.

John Krasinski, who once upon a time played Jim Halpert on “The Office,” is up-and-coming CIA analyst Jack Ryan in the new Amazon Prime Video series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” and a trailer released Monday shows the suspense he’s gotten himself into.

As Amazon puts it, Ryan has been “thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. He soon uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.”

Krasinski stars alongside Wendell Pierce, who we loved on “The Wire,” and Abbie Cornish, the Australian actress who recently starred in the film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

The series will stream on Prime beginning Aug. 31.
