Can you top this ugly sweater donned by GeekWire co-founder John Cook? Yes, you can!

The rains are hitting. The cold winds are blowing, and darkness is starting to arrive earlier on the shores of Puget Sound.

On this election day, let’s forget about the strains our country faces, and focus on something more important: ugly sweaters!

That’s right. It’s time to cozy up in a fun new GeekWire Gala holiday tradition —our inaugural “Ugly Sweater” contest, presented by our partners at The University of Washington’s Foster School of Business Master of Science in Information Systems.

Here’s how this will work. Snap a photo of yourself — donning your ugliest sweater getup — and send to us at events@geekwire.com with your name, occupation and inspiration for the especially unpleasant duds. And then post that photo and description to Twitter with the #GeekWireUglySweater. Deadline to enter is Monday, Dec. 3.

From the pool of submissions, we will select three finalists who will be asked to come on stage in their ugly sweater at the GeekWire Gala on the evening of Dec. 6th, with the audience helping to choose the ultimate winner. Each finalist will receive two free tickets to the Gala, and the winner will walk away with geeky bragging rights and a fun prize package.

So, what are you waiting for? Jump into your closet, and bust out the ugliest stuff you’ve got.

If you are not into rocking an ugly sweater, you can still join us for the Gala, the geekiest holiday party on the planet. Early-bird tickets are on sale here, so make sure to grab yours before prices go up on Thursday.
