A few days ahead of April Fool’s Day, Bill Gates made a guest appearance on “The Big Bang Theory.” It really wasn’t a prank, despite what Sheldon (Jim Parsons) may have thought throughout Thursday night’s episode.

Gates starred as himself and was only in a couple scenes, one of which was teased earlier this week by CBS.

Penny (Kaley Cuoco) was playing host to Gates at her work when his company was looking to partner with her pharmaceutical company.

Leonard (Johnny Galecki) really wanted to meet the Microsoft co-founder and plotted behind Penny’s back to do so along with Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar).

It didn’t go so great, as Leonard lost his cool and sniveled all over Gates’ tie.

While Gates may not have dominated in screen time, his name was used throughout in assorted dialogue:

Howard: “Do you think you could get Bill Gates to sign something for me?”

Penny: “Yeah, maybe, like what?”

Howard: “My arm, my chest … his call.”

Penny: “His call will be to the police.”

and …

Raj: “What would you do if you had a billion dollars?”

Howard: “Same as Bill Gates. Try to make the world a better place. But I’d do it in a working Iron Man suit.”

Raj: “I didn’t know that came in a boy’s medium.”

Gates did end up showing a little more face in a phone selfie with Leonard and later during a video chat with Penny and Leonard.
