This week, our gadget show Geared Up is taking its energy to a different level.

While co-host Andru Edwards is out of town, we take a spin in the brand-new, all-electric Chevy Bolt EV with GeekWire contributor Tim Ellis. The Bolt is the latest in a growing pool of completely electric vehicles, and it’s been making quite a buzz in the automotive world and beyond.

Tim drives his new Bolt into Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood for a test ride with GeekWire editor Todd Bishop. The car is packed with gadgets and features that make it feel futuristic and even makes a fake fan noise to compensate for its completely silent motor.

Tim also shows us how the car doesn’t want for power, something that makes many drivers hesitant about electric vehicles.

We also take a look at another mode of electric transportation: Tim’s collection of electric-powered skateboards. Tim shows off his skills on the remote control Mellow Drive and the hands-free ZBoard and One Wheel boards.

He got into the boards a few years ago, when he backed some on Kickstarter, and he says they’re so easy to use even novices like Todd could get around on one. Tim likes them so much that he uses them in his daily commute to get between the bus stop and his office.
