Seattle just added a new corporate headquarters.

Promethean, an educational technology company owned by Chinese Internet powerhouse NetDragon Websoft Holdings Limited, announced Friday that it has opened a new global headquarters in Seattle.

“As traditional pedagogy continues to move towards immersive learning, it’s important for Promethean to lead innovation in education with the latest technology,” Promethean CEO Vin Riera said in a press release. “Seattle is a global technology hub, and establishing Promethean’s global headquarters there increases opportunities for new business models, concepts, and relationships.”

The company, which provides technology solutions to 50,000 schools and educational institutions in 154 countries, will retain its offices in Atlanta, which will remain the hub for the Americas market. It also will retain its offices in Blackburn, United Kingdom.

Last month, the company announced the hiring of Sue Choe as chief financial officer. Choe previously served as VP of Finance and Chief Account Officer at Seattle-based RealNetworks.

Promethean is the maker of ActivPanel, an interactive flat panel display powered by an upgradeable Android-based processor. The device is said to create “a captivating, tablet-like experience in the front of the classroom.”  It also makes ClassFlow software, which is designed to help teachers deliver online lessons.

Promethean acquired Seattle-based education software startup SynapticMash for $10 million in 2010. We have reached out to Promethean for more details, and we will update this post as we learn more.

Promethean is not the only education company expanding in the Seattle area. Earlier this month, GeekWire reported that technology entrepreneur Matt Hulett had been named president of language by Rosetta Stone, which is growing its office in the Seattle area.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for Promethean said that the headquarters is located on the Norton Building on Second Avenue in Seattle. Eight employees are located at the headquarters, including the CEO. The company plans to have 25-30 employees in the new facility within the year.
