The return to fantasy and high drama on television took a step in the right direction on Thursday with a new trailer teasing the upcoming seventh season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”
“It’s been a long journey to the throne, but ‘when the long night comes, we need to be ready,'” reads the description for the trailer on HBO’s website.
The length of that journey seems to be driven home by the walks taken by Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister as they all make their approach to respective thrones.
But it’s Cersei who takes our breath away at the end. As candles are extinguished and she exhales cooly, we get a closing glimpse of a White Walker, and “A Song of Ice and Fire” is truly realized.
“Game of Thrones” returns on July 16.
