Jaguar has a flashy new advertisement for its new F-PACE SUV, and while the vehicle is certainly an attention-getter, the real star of the 1-minute ad is a man who knows a thing or two about the cosmos — Stephen Hawking.

The physicist plays a Bond-type villain of sorts in the ad called “The Arrival.” He interacts with a young man who has just arrived at his mountain home in the Jaguar.

“You’re late,” Hawking says. “Yes, as you well know, time is a relative concept,” the man says. “Don’t be a smart aleck,” Hawking replies.

Hawking, 74, posted about his appearance in the commercial via his Facebook page this week.

You all know me as Professor Stephen Hawking, the physicist wrestling with the great concepts of time and space. But there is another side to me that you may not know: Stephen Hawking the actor. I have always wanted to be in a movie playing the part of a typical British villain. And now, thanks to Jaguar my wish has come true. I am proud to present the premiere of the launch commercial for Jaguar’s first performance SUV, the new Jaguar F-PACE. -SH

The ad is directed by Tom Hooper, the Oscar winner behind the 2010 film “The King’s Speech.” He also directed “Les Miserables” (2012) and “The Danish Girl” (2015.) His previous work for Jaguar, “Rendezvous,” was built around the theme of British actors who always seem to play villains in movies and starred Ben Kingsley, Tom Hiddleston and Mark Strong.
