The holidays are times for food, family, and warm fuzzy feelings. But for techies, they are also the time of the year when tech support goes into overdrive. Family members plead for help fixing new laptops, old remote controls, and of course the ever-present WiFi dead spots.

Andru Edwards of Gear Live joins us on this episode of the GeekWire Podcast to share some of his tips for making it through the holidays. One is the Netgear Orbi, a WiFi system that can cover up to 4,000 square feet, more than enough space for everyone to check Twitter and ignore each other during family gatherings.

Andru also reviews the biggest deals of Black Friday, and the must-have tech of the season. When family time is over, he has some tips to make the most of this year’s gaming releases, including a simple trick for faster game loading times on the Xbox One S with $75 and a bit of elbow grease.

Plus we dive into the biggest game gifts of the season, including the Xbox One exclusive “Gears of War 4” and “Forza Horizon 3,” two of Andru’s favorites so far this year. Customized Xbox controllers can also be a fun gift for gamers, he points.

We also talk Nintendo, including recent releases of Pokemon Sun and Moon and Super Mario Maker for the 3DS. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a Nintendo classic and Andru’s all-time favorite game, makes a nostalgic gift for gamers as well.
