Google has hired Sam Schillace to help run its cloud engineering operations, company spokesperson Michael Moeschler confirmed today. As the new vice president of engineering for industry solutions, he will be based in Mountain View, reporting to Diane Greene, executive vice president of Google Cloud Enterprise.

Schillace most recently worked as the senior vice president of engineering for Box, the file-sharing and collaboration firm that went public last year. He started at Box in 2012, leading R&D and a team of 400 engineers, according to his LinkedIn profile.

From March 2006 through June 2010, Schillace served as Google’s senior engineering director, working on projects including Google Docs, Gmail, Calendar, Reader and Picasa. For roughly a year starting in August 2011, he served as a principal on the investment team at Google Ventures.

Bloomberg first reported Schillace’s new role at Google.
