People of a certain political persuasion have been missing the searing commentary of former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart during this prolonged election season. But in an appearance Monday night, Stewart returned with a gem of a story to at least get us through to next Tuesday.

Stewart delivered a monologue at the 10th annual Stand up for Heroes benefit, which raises money for the Bob Woodruff Foundation to support veterans and their families. Calling his story, “The Day I Woke Up to Find Out Somebody Was Tweeting Weird Shit About Me,” Stewart weaved a 5-minute-long tale about getting into a Twitter war with Donald Trump in April 2013.

The feud began with Trump tweeting at Stewart — whom he referred to by his real name, Jonathan Leibowitz — about being “totally overrated.”

“I said, as you might say to yourself, ‘What the f*** is that about?'” Stewart said.

Given Trump’s history on the social media channel, the most surprising part of the story is that Stewart is surprised he was a target.

A couple more shots from Trump and Stewart catches on that Trump is appearing to let people know via Twitter that, surprise, Stewart is Jewish.

Stewart eventually replied with a tweet that read, “Many people don’t know this, but Donald Trump’s real name is F***face von Clownstick.”

Suffice to say, things escalated rapidly, the internet got involved, and it ended days later with Trump tweeting at 1:30 in the morning that “Little Jon Stewart(?) is a pussy, he would be hopeless in a debate with me!”

“Vote wisely this Nov. 8,” Stewart concluded from stage last night.
