azure sql datadog ssCloud metrics firm Datadog now allows monitoring of the cloud-based version of an old IT standby: the Azure SQL relational database.

Database technology is changing rapidly, with NoSQL gaining in popularity and newer companies like MongoDB dissing relational database management systems as clunky and unable to take advantage of commodity storage and compute. But RDBMSs remain a corporate mainstay and are the obvious choice for some kinds of companies and data, especially when data integrity is essential.

Datadog’s monitor for Azure SQL tracks database use, client connections and consumption of CPU, storage and I/O, it said in a blog post. It also tracks a user’s consumption of  DTUs (database transaction units), the metric for how Azure SQL work is accomplished and paid for.

New Datadog users qualify for a free trial, the company said.

Earlier this week, Datadog unveiled a new website that lets Pokémon Go players check whether their favorite game is having problems or it’s just their phone acting up.
